Fascism and “Don’t Call What Happened in Iran Last Week an Election”

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Correction: Per UK and YouTube, the video I had here was actually two years old.  I’m removing the video player, but the link for the earlier video is here.

I went to the last major Ahmadinejad rally and got the whiff of what I imagine fascism to have been all about. Lots of splotchy boys who can’t get a date are given guns and told they’re special.

I’ve got to get to work, but wanted you to see the excellent piece in Slate.com by Christopher Hitcheans(sp?) Gotta go

Hurricane Rita round up.

Friday, October 14th, 2005

Unbelievably after all of the Hurricane drama, it seems that almost everyone we know made it through with property and souls intact. Doreen, our friend in Mississippi, bore the worst of the damage. And our prayers and thoughts are with her. (Also the spare bedroom Doreen. Austin’s a lovely town) Fr JC’s church in Pt Arthur suffered some ceiling damage, so they are temporarily holding services sonewhere else within the facility. Fr Donahue and the Sisters seem to have not suffered too much property damage, allthough the hospital did take in water, and they’re having to dry it out. I think it begins operation this week. Bob and Mary in Pt Arthur had some roof and garden damage, but remained dry.

Don’t have to live like a Refuge

(2005-09-22) Everyone’s exhausted from the drive (and preparations), but here is a collection of those that came to Austin to wait out Hurricane Rita.

Mike and Dawn are hosting Peter and Susan Conwell and their daughter Holland, along with 2 dogs and a bird.

Jaime has a load of folks from LaPorte, Patty and Kirby and their two young’uns Stephanie and Justin. Isiah and Christy round out the crew

Other Conwell’s and Mulkay’s affected

  • Mike and Pat in San Antonio with Jenny
  • Bob and Mary in Spring/Kingswood

All present and accounted for with 24 hours to go before landfall.
